Madeira: Funchal Old Town

In Funchal, one of the Old Town pedestrian streets was getting run down and someone had an idea to infuse some artwork to reinvigorate the neighbourhood.  The laneway is now full of restaurants and shops and the artwork consists of funky painted doors.   Here are some pictures along the street:




















Down at the lower end of Old Town is the Forte de Sao Tiago.  This is a fortress dating to the early 17th century.  Built to defend the town from invading pirates.   Here are some pictures from the Fortress:
