Madeira: Banana Plantation Walk

Today we drove to Madalena do Mar and took a walk among a banana plantation.  It was quite fun and scenic, along side a coastal highway.  Along the route were lots of houses, where presumably the owners of the plantation live.  There were also honesty bins, full of ripe bananas, where you take what you want and leave the requested payment.  There is no charge for this walk and it is on the All Trails website, titled as Roto do Bananas.  It is a short, flat easy walk.

The bananas are not for personal picking, as they are owned by local farmers.  We took this walk in the afternoon and encountered only a few people along the way.

Madeira bananas are unique in that the type of banana is short and distinct and only grows like it on Madeira.
